We need govt mercy

ELECTRICITY tariff in Myanmar is going to up again if the parliament pass the proposal from executives. From govt ministry, there are a lot reason provided for doing so. From people side, there are so many reason for unhappiness with the news as well. This is not first attempt to increase the bill and it is second time to persuade MPs through parliament as the constitution guided to do so. In late last year, the ministry tried to increase the bill without announcing their intention to people in advance and met adverse response. There were some cities that see its people came out of their houses to road to protest the move. Then, the attempt was postponed to next financial year which will be starting on coming April 1 and the electricity ministry therefore tried again to succeed their plan.

The govt explained how does it go with heavy lose from electricity sector for people. The facts is that only 30% of our population are accessible to electricity which is not relevant for round clock. The electricity breakout is quite often during dry season like summer. Most of electricity came from hydro-power dam and thus Myanmar's production on electricity dramatically fall short in dry season. It is relatively strange to see a country like Myanmar too much rely on weather base production to the given oil&gas production and selling to the neighboring countries. Our people think that they deserve our natural resource first, after that the authority should sell to other nations. On the other hand, the electricity bill is related to consumer products production that is link to how electricity is reliable. If the bill is allowed to increase, the basic necessity rate will go up and the inflation will ride on it and then the ordinary people will suffer for that. I am not sure if the govt leaders have thought of consequence to mitigate the plight of people.

The president keep saying he and his govt is trying to minimize the degree of poor across the country. Now 3 years pass and people see no improvement from this govt. Time say that the ruling party is nothing but keep giving promise people without fulfilling it. At contrary, they would even pass the law that are difficult to apply by people and make people's life more miserable. They would say how our country's public bill rate are lower in the region. But they would fail to compare the quality of service with their counterparts. Our people and businessmen would be more than happy to pay higher if they could guarantee us better and reliable electricity regardless of time and weather. The problem from past experience is that we people pay more to find the service remain the same later and suffer from the cost of living expense. Who care about our people then? Perhaps God will know and do it on behalf of our corrupted extra-ordinary ministers and seemingly brainless leaders.
