DURING our holiday, my wife told our daughter not to drink water before she drinks milk. The point is that she can drink more milk which has more nutrient facts than water. Our daughter is not big rice-eater and we are disappointed to learn that. She would eat other snacks frequently and that make her no time to hungry for rice and curry which is traditional one. It is not so easy to stop relatives and nanny couple giving her a snack whenever she ask for because we cannot live together. Thus, sometime we unhappily ignore some altitude we don't like if it is too much risk to her. I understand that the closest people will easily give her snack so that she would be long cry or to avoid unnecessary compromise between them.
Soon after we return to work, my sister one day buys her an ice-cream on the way back home from preschool. As my sister learns from a doctor, she urges little girl to drink water first before enjoying ice-creams after getting back home. The little girl complains that my mother taught me not to drink water before taking milk. My sister explains her that this time is not for milk, for ice-cream which is a solid. Before eating solid food, you have to drive water first so that your way to stomach would be smooth and easy. Hmm like that lah, okay I'll drink water first, she agrees with my sister. Mostly, we underestimate our children by telling non-sense things with the hope of they won't remember them for long time. In fact, their brains are fresh and always eager to learn things on planet. We should respect them and teach them in correct manner. There is a Myanmar saying that only good initial can meet a good end. If it is a cause, then there is no reason we cannot teach our children correctly nowadays.
