Goodbye 2010 ; Welcome 2011

2010 is ticking down to end and we can sense the smell of 2011 at sight. Time and Tide waits for no men. What have we learned from 2010? We all see the world escaped from 2009 global recession and the economy recovered. Some countries are still struggling to settle the side effect from the worst recession after two years time. Some become victims of a bad economy. Jobless rate had hit record high in certain countries. People are suffering from both natural disaster and artificial terrorist plot. The world seems unhealthy due to people's careless efforts.

Some big countries become bigger and take bigger pie on world's stage. Some are busy with possessing a powerful weapons and some are seeking for international aids to rescue the plight of their people. In 2010, US led army left from Iraq while adding some forces to Afghanistan. China is trying to breast US as a new super power nation. China became world's second biggest economy at the expense of Japan. China's dominance became head line as it broke world's record one after another. China tried to appreciate its currency. US tried to manipulate world economy as usual. Korea Peninsular is at the stake of nuclear war. Asia pacific region keep war games and show instabilities.

Meanwhile my country drew the world's attention by holding much awaited election. Regardless of fair or sham, it has been finished by predicted result. The world's leaders has no much time to criticize the election result as our leaders release pro-democracy icon ASSK few days after election. People's complains suddenly diverted to ASSK's release. The whole world and people are eagerly watching what she can do for her country. As usual, she has come and gone. We have been witness the same story repeat in the past.

Myanmar government is busy with selling natural resources and earning record high foreign currency. Vast natural gas were found by MNCs and even make our country the second most natural gas export country in Asia Pacific region. I don't know who is first, but I'm not happy to get runner up post for my country. At the same time, billion worth projects are surfaced in my country such as deep ports at Kyauk Phyu and Htewai. China companies are building the hydro dam around my country. People are not happy to see development project as it doesn't change their life. Even they suffer from losing their farm land, rivers, forest, etc.

Myanmar has faced hottest summer as well as irregular moonson rain. It effectively spoiled harvest and the foods price are likely to soar. The inflection rate is unknown among people. The news are still unreliable. People continue to listen outside radio broadcaster. At the ethnic states, some battles are happening and forced local ethnic people flee their villages. Thailand got the refugees over the year and UNHCR keep watching the human right. I sympathize their plight but I can't do anything for them. I pray harder for their better and peaceful life in next year 2011.

I have been a milestone in 2010 as I became a father in July. Try to settle a work-family life within my effort. Keep working in oversea and let our very first baby girl stay with my relatives. We swallow all incoming pains due to homesick. We take responsibilities for failing to live together. We don't try to point out at other. But we are working under pressure at the hectic life. We struggle amid strange environment. We felt unstable job and risk at returning home at any time. Finally I found myself becoming a victim of global crisis. It's not only my problem. It's result of global effort. We all enjoy the life together and carry burdens when the time goes wrong. In this modernized world, we can't able to stand alone. We have to do our own part for the sake of better and greener world.

Hopefully we can have a better, prosperous, peaceful and healthy life in coming new year, 2011.

A Considerate Man

HOW CONSIDERATE are we to our society? Once it come to me, I can't stop thinking of one paralysis man who is always moving on motor wheelchair. I used to see him going around frequently on the way to office and return home. He's always busy with taking picture and talking to somebody. I didn't know why he is like that until one day I witness his action within my sight.

It's fine Saturday and I was half day working. As usual, I enjoy my lunch on nearby hawker alone and seeing him busy in front of me. He took some photos of some cars that are parking illegal with his hand phone camera and informed to traffic police. I see his action interesting and sooner traffic police arrive by motorcycle. The police took necessary action against those traffic offending cars. Some owners rushed back to their cars and try to give reasons to police officer but officer declined their requests by citing wheelchair man. He seems relax and moving around here and there.
Justify Full
I was really amazing on the way he contributes to his country despite he is disable person. It's a shame for those normal people who neglect to contribute like he does. Later from that day, I noticed he is taking this job everywhere he goes. I don't think he gets some benefit or earning by doing this. But he must be a good citizen with a great mind. Every country would need such considerate person in making people keep comply the rule and regulations laid by government in order to raise community's safety and pleasure. I praise that man personally and I'ld give him citizen award if I am among the penal of board to select such award. But I'm sure he's not doing such thing with the prospect of award winning.

May all of us able to give back something to our society. This man has shown us how we can contribute to the country we live if we are willing to do so.

Anniversary Poem

I AM a member of a group that make dhamma activities by the power of same spirited friends. We accidentally formed this group by some close friends over one year ago. Our cole ambition is to make monthly donation by collecting some pocket money among group members and save fund as much as possible. By the time fund reach relatively amount, we select a place in need from our native land and send the cummulative fund there to ease their poverty or necessities. We initially share information through the key member's blog among members. Later we set up new blog for our group and use the blog for the purpose of information sharing among group members.

We try to arrange this donation happen every month and seek advice from our member on selecting of monastery for next activity. At the same time, we exchange some memory through sharing some photos and also upload the updated donation fund and expense sheet so that all member can access all information without any difficulties. Once the group was approached to one year anniversary, the group members are requested to upload some article, story or poem through our very own blog. This is the reason why I wrote this poem in Singapore despite I am struggling with hectic schedule between work and school. Anyway I am pleased able to contribute my effort to the group by doing my part. I herewith attached my poem for sharing

Mind your receipt

HAVE YOU ever check your receipt after paying by NETs before you leave counter? Mostly will answer NO to this question, I think. I also don't have such practice every time I make purchase. Recently my colleague who is also my compatriot received a call from DBS. He was surprised to learn that his account had been cut more than what he's suppose to pay. How does this incident happen to him?

One day he purchased a pair of jean on lion city's famous mall, Ion Ochard. It cost him about S$50 something only. But eventually he press pin number for over S$700 without checking screen amount. He also has no practice in checking bill and throw it away as usual. He didn't know until he receive a call from DBS. What if the sale person didn't inform to DBS for this incident? My friend would be a loser for his hard earn without even notice. All the staffs from office are amazed and score him for his negligence. Luckily he gets back his money and appreciate the manner of honest sale personnel from the shop.

Later one of our friends who has been working as a part-time sale promoter explained us that it used to happen to any sale personnel because they need to press different machine to complete transaction. One for their own account file and another to claim from respective bank. He continued that the sale personnel won't aware to rectify if the different amount is not much. In this case, the amount is vast and they take necessary action to prevent the shop's reputation. So we are advised to counter check on bill receipt before we press pin or after we receive the hard copy of bill. We should take extra care to prevent losing our hard earn money by these way. It's not hard to us to comply and why not we change the bad habit if any?

Hope you find this helpful to remind you some way.

Unhealthy Currency

It's embarrassing to see our own money at the deterioration state. No other currency would be the same as us, I think. What made our society become like that? You would like to accuse me for forgetting our real life of younger days. It is crystal clear I remember that the money of my younger days are much better and beautiful than today. We were able to play with coin that are effectively buried today. I am disappointing myself for unable to show my daughter variety of our past currency. She'll live amid the poor currency with the animal. Why our currency become like that? Don't we have somebody to be honoured by printing on our currency? Even a far late establish country like Singapore could find a man to honour on their currency, why not for long history owned my country?

You won't be noticed that situation unless you have been working or seeing oversea currency. I was amazed to see Malaysia's Ringgit first time I saw. The size, quality, color all come impressive way. I even put some plastic money inside my envelop and send back to my country for their witness. Of course, my siblings were equally surprise once they saw plastic money. In fact, Malaysia is not only one nation that use such quality notes among regional countries. I have viewed some currency from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thai, Philippine and all come not much different in quality. Then why our money always come full of dust, fungus, plaster, mud, etc. These all are not good for health to all users.

Since it's circulating in the market, there are much potential to infect some unwanted bacteria from one to another. Recent survey made in India proof that the money is main source of bacteria spread for some particular diseases. If it is a case, then our people would be the most to suffer as a consequence of these dirty money. Some rumour suggests that the government makes it deliberately in the attempt of replacing the national hero money by new version of lion head money. Meanwhile the government announced the central bank already exchanged for 28 billion currency but the market seems not enough and people are tame to those dirty cash.

As a country with limited bank access, the cash using is a must and it drive the money easier to dirty and tears. Another reason can be the quality of money made paper. It seems done by cheap paper to save production cost and it can make easy to spoil. Anyway, the government should step into the case and should take necessary action to prevent any possible negative effect due to extra-dirty of cash. People are complaining that they have to pay 10,000 Ks for new 8,000 Ks. It may make people to refuse exchange as long as they can use with dirty money in the market. Why government can't exchange apple to apple for people? Some said they can exchange equal amount by some NGOs.

May our people able to use local currency with dignity.

Black & White

When I born, I black

When I grow up, I black

When I go in Sun, I black

When I scared, I black

When I sick, I black And

when I die, I still black

And you white fellow

When you born, you pink

When you grow up, you white

When you go in sun, you red

When you cold, you blue

When you scared, you yellow

When you sick, you green And

when you die, you grey

Famous Quotes

I personally admire to MM Lee for his overall contribution to his country. When I was younger, I respected Malaysia's former PM Mahathir for his outspoken behavior. Later I relatively noticed about the fact of MM Lee because I got a chance to work in the same country. He is a successful politician of Asia and also deserve several praise from worldwide for his effort transforming Singapore from a fishing village to a metropolitan city. You'll never know how important and influence on the city state unless you have been in lion city. Current PM is son of MM Lee and he still taking some responsibility despite he is over 80. Whenever I think of him, I can't stop myself thinking what if our national hero, General Aung San is alive. Probably our country would have developed like Japan or South Korea because he has a long version and his patriotism make him seek any possible room to develop country. Our national hero is well recognized by world's leaders and unfortunately he was assassinated even before independence. What a bad luck for us losing our super leader such cheap way.

Recently wikileaks revealed some news related to my country. Among few, most highlighted one come from comment of MM Lee that state "Junta leaders are stupid and dealing with them is like talking to dead person". What a strong words is it? Diplomatically it can affect bilateral relationship between countries. The news followed the Malaysia related comment that state Malaysia's leaders are incompetent. The Malaysia foreign minister issued protest letter immediately upon release of this cable news. I thought there would be similar thing to come out from my country as well. But I prayed not to affect badly as there are a lot fellow citizen working in city state. I don't know what'll be consequence for this.

This is not first time for MM Lee to comment on my country's matter. I remember he said some famous words as following:

When our army chief's daughter wedding was holding, he commented "the bride is much look like Christmas tree rather than a traditional bride"....

When media questioned him "is it due to easy internet access the sex related crime increase among school age boys and girls?", he responded by citing our country's situation as below.
"If our students are unable to access internet and electricity, it would be same like those from Burma".

What a great words from him but soar words for passive people? We, people, suffer more when we are critized by truth things in life. There is no respond to the comment but we'll be remembering them for the rest of life because it's alien. No wonder he is famous till now globally. We badly need such kind of leader who can see life as it is and able to pull us from deeply poverty.

Disclaimer: the latter two comments can be wrong or inaccurate as the source I read is not reliable media. I just sharing these with my friends as I enjoy on those words despite a bit offensive.

Deforestation

DEAR my daughter, do you know our country is famous for its vast natural resources? One of them is Burma Teak and it's very expensive and popular to use luxury style decoration. We are proud of this when we are working in oversea because there are less positive things about our country. Recently I read an article called "Shrinking green" in the Strait Time Newspaper and shocked to learn some research data regarding to south-east asia forest. According to data, South-east Asian forests are among the most threatened in the world, with close to 3 million ha destroyed every year. There is never got enough recovery scheme to replace them.

These days, people are suffering from the chaos of severe weather worldwide. The North-America and Europe are fighting with snow storm that halted their major transportation system such as airport and rail. On the other side, some countries are struggling with cyclone, flood, volcano, earthquake, etc. People are however never take care of our earth despite they are facing punishment by our angry planet. If we are talking about global warming, carbon emission and deforestation come top of agenda in the world's serial meetings. Usually carbon emission come from developing countries like china, brazil while deforestation come from less developing countries like our country.

Our government rely on exporting our famous forest products without having proper plan to replace the voids left by cutting trees. The trees were cut by legally and illegally. People need trees for their daily usages such as firewood, making charcoal, building house, etc. On the other hand, forest ministry issue permit to local companies to cut trees for export. Of course our trees goes abroad through several illegal ways with cheap price. It's dangerous and alarming situation if they keep cutting without changing policy to save our forest.

I am so sad to see our country's map change from green to brown. When I was young, I listened to our parent's suggestion that we shouldn't go out of village as the forest is big enough to make a home for tigers. We are afraid of going to the forest alone especially at night time. Villagers used to go there by group when the report is made for missing somebody. Nowadays I rarely see the greenery hillside around my village. All the mountains I can see from a car has no trees and no wonder the temperature reached record high this year. Also the monsoon rain come not usual ways and even spoil our harvest by coming late. Also our people suffer from unusual flooding by heavy rains. While flooding on some regions, our rivers become less water flowing due to hydro-power dam projects. Our government is so busy with building dams all over the country.

Our neighbouring countries are energy-hungry and they are coming to our country to look for any possible energy generation from our rich natural resources. According to report, there are more than 50 dam projects that can generate electricity. Of course these projects destroyed our forest and river. The victims are local villagers because these project made their daily business upside down. They are pity as they have nowhere to file their complain as the project are done by government back companies. Worse? the electricity generated by these hydro projects would be sold to other countries. Meaning the local people's life won't be raised by these project despite they suffer from this projects.

May our forest get a chance to live their full life.

Daddy's Christmas Present

DEAR my daughter, Today is Christmas Eve and everybody here are in the festive mode and enjoying the season of giving. Most of company here are half day working and some even close today to boost their festive mode. Unfortunately your dad needs to work full day. But my company offers Christmas lunch at a new mall that is launched recently in here. Everybody looks happy being known they are entering long weekend. Some might busy with the hunt of a suitable and right present for their special person. The retailers are taking advantage of the festive season by convincing their customers with special discount. Everywhere has discounts and shoppers are enjoying that.

For me and your mum, we are thinking about present for you these days because your mum is likely to go back home next month to see you. We have long shopping list for you but haven't fulfilled. This afternoon after having Christmas lunch, my colleagues and I strolled around the newest mall. We found a promotional floor made by Japanese departmental store called Isetan. Usually the promotional ground is made on 1st floor and I saw it from 2nd floor. Once I saw toys among other promotional goods, I rush down there and took 3 toys for you. It's not easy to choose from so many toys within a limited time as I have to return work thereafter. I borrowed money from my friend and bought some toys that I think is you'll love to play with.

I hope you'll love to get it and remembering me whenever you play with them. Your mum and I are desparate to buy child care products whenever we found them. I carefully look at newspaper's advertisement section if there is childware one or not. If I find some, I'll let your mum know for discussion. This time I bought toys without your mum consent as it make me feel a chance that never come back twice. Hopefully you'll able to play with the present sooner than later.

Wish you merrier Christmas and happy new year, my princess.

Christmas letter to my daughter

MY DEAR DAUGHTER,

It has been 5 months you already in this planet and we have missed each other for almost last couple months. We realize that you have been significantly change during this missing time. Your mum and I were told how clever and cute you are by my sisters. Of course, it's the most wanted ever we expected from you. We thank you for maintaining your health at optimum and give us least burden since you arrive our private world. We still felt irresponsible despite we arranged the best for you within our reach. You might have sad when you start understanding that your parent are not around you at this age. We always unhappy to consider this and looking forward your understanding on our fate. We painfully choice this way in the prospect of your better life.

Your mum seems no fully recover from the remembrance as she still crying for missing you almost every night. She was sicked last week after she knew that her office will close only 5 days that stop her secret plan to return home. She used to cry when she talk about you through wire. She cry when she see your cute photo. She cry when discuss about your future. She always think of you and seek for a chance to go back. She will reject when I asked her to resign and go back home. How incredible mum is she? How lucky we are being a mum for you and a wife for me? She become talkative when telling about you. She has unlimited resource about you. I have to ask her sleep every night so that she can wake up next day fully energized. But I find she find it hard to sleep quickly as she can't stop thinking of you. I need to convince her to sleep as it can lead to her bad health. Sometime I see her open eyes when I wake up in the middle of night. What a good mum is she? She can do everything for you even it is not for me. But I won't jealous for that as I love you so much as well.

You are our jewel in home and only one heiress. You make our finding money more meaningful. You light our future brighter. You make our ambition become real. We believe in you that you'll never disappoint us as we both never made our family disappointed. We both expect the best from you. We look forward you took the best of us combination. We want to shoulder your burden happily and will happy if you can stand alone one day. It's our newest hope in life. Oh baby, but may I request you one thing being a dad. Please do not hate us for leaving you alone there. Please do not ask difficult question when you can speak. Please do not misunderstand us for chasing money. Please do not neglect our loving kindness when we come back one day. Your mum won't bear if you love other more than her. It is the most unwanted thing we want to avoid in future.

But I confident in you that you'll never disappoint us as you are clever and smart girl. Wish you a merry Christmas and happy new year ahead. Please do not complain for failing to celebrate this festive season together with you there, my dear. But I promise you that you're always in our mind though we are an ocean away now. We always together in dream. Believe me, our union time would come sooner day by day.

With LOVE,

Your beloving dad.

The important of Breast Milk

DEAR my daughter, I read a latest result regarding breast-feeding and unhappy to learn that. Fortunately the effect may be more pronounced in boys and I relax from this single sentence. Being a parent, we expect you the best in all area especially in education. Your mum and I were busy with thinking where should we let you study either local or oversea. We on the same time realize that there are mixed advantage and disadvantages on both side. It's not always an easy decision to make between us. We are really aware on bad news related to students of developed countries within our region. We can't deny that their educational system is much better than ours. But they'll never learned how to live in daily life with dignity like our students were taught by teachers at all levels. The latest result revealed as follow my dear:-

Breastfeeding babies could help them achieve academic success by the age of 10. Researchers from the University of Western Australia found that children who were predominantly breastfed for six months did better in mathematics, reading, writing and spelling. The effect was strongest in boys. Boys are more responsive to maternal attention when learning which could explain why breastfeeding had a greater effect on them. The authors also suggested that there may be substances in breast milk that help the brain develop. This effect more pronounced in boys because they lack the female hormones which are known to protect the brain.

On average, boys had poorer numeracy and literacy scores than girls; however, the scores were improved if the child was breastfed for six months or longer.

Onion Thought

I HAVE never thought the price of vegetable would affect the politic in one country until I read a news of India today through ST online paper. I have been familiar reading about cooling property market by several governments. Most noticeably it happened in Singapore and China these days. What they said is to protect property bubble that can relate to country's economic and inflation rate. In Singapore, HDB launched its one millionth unit yesterday and the paper made it front news. City state always try to cool property market as they have very limited land resource and they wisely managed by changing policy according to market condition. Some system set up attempted by city state are BTO (Build To Order), Shoebox flat, EC(Executive Condo), etc as well as mortgage manipulation and ownership of foreigner.

On the other hand, India is paying attention on the price soar of onion as it's considered their staple ingredient for local curry. People are really concern about the sky rocket price now 80 rupee per kg from 35 to 40 rupee a kg. To reflect people's voice, the India government suspended the export of onion at least until January or the market become stability whichever is later. Meanwhile the government started to open temporary market to sell onion with wholesale price to its people. What a good government for their people? I really appreciate the way they take measure on taking care of its people.

At the same time, Myanmar local news paper expressed that Myanmar's export income become increase due to strong local currency against US dollar and also citing recent gem sale held at Myanmar's secretive capital, Nay Pyi Daw. The author paste a photo of rice exporting together with his article. The global warming didn't spare to my country and our people suffered from several kind of natural disasters that spoil their farm and well affected their income. Some are helpless and got no idea on returning loan that they took for cultivation. Usually our people need to handle themselves for any incoming troubles regardless of natural or artificial. They have no place to ask for mercy. There is no one to take care of their lives.

We all pay tax so that the government can fill the gap between the rich and poor. We expect our government to do their part in making people's life easier and comfortable. Naturally our people are genial and less demanding despite they are fallen in the deep troubles. Some people can't afford to eat thrice a day due to high price of foods especially rice. Of course, the bad weather destroyed our farm and impact on rice production. Since rice is our staple food, the market demand is much more compare to other foods. It make the price of rice soar. In this stage, why our government keep exporting at the expense of people's starvation? Is dollar much more important than our people's life?

Some countries in the region already ensure the rice reserve enough by buying from exporting country to make sure their people's need is adequate. Why not our government take the same measure while they don't need to buy like others does? Our government can happily earn from other natural resources like natural gas, oil, gems, etc. I don't think they can't afford to suspend the export of food products in search of dollar. They can replace this money from other ways and surely they will be loved by our people. Of course, people will definitely love the government who take care their life. I look forward to read the good news of such positive measure taken by our government leaders sooner than later.

Raise dignity of pagoda premise

IT IS EMBARRASSING AND DISAPPOINTING to see tourists are allowed to visit the premise of our country's famous Buddha image of Maha Muni from Mandalay, central Burma. Today I read one local newspaper's article through online entitled the increasing amount of tourist entered Myanmar's second largest city.

Recently one of my friend visited to Emerald pagoda of Thailand and I remember he shared his experience on how they (Thais) are serious on their holy pagoda that is located in the premise of their palace. My friend, being a tourist, needed to pay 350 Baht to enter the premise of Emerald Pagoda. Unfortunately he wore a short pant and asked to change with long pant that is available through rental service at pagoda. It cost him another 200 Baht for rental deposit which can be reclaimed upon return.

I am sure we have similar measure to take entrance from tourist to visit our famous religious places. Then why not follow Thailand's way to put the law that bars all visitor wearing unsuitable outfit like short pant, skirt, etc on the premise of holy land? Being a country of majority Buddhist country, we should make it seriously not only on tourist but locals. Failing to do so would be nothing but a shun. Looking forward our authority will take it into consideration and action as soon as possible.

May our holy premises free from irrespective behavior of people regardless of locals or tourist.

Be aware of Killer Questions

Justify FullWE ALL have passed the interview section if we were finding current job without assist of any agent. Also we are most likely to repeat it when the circumstance require us to find new job or change job. Nowadays it's realistic to happen all immigrant workers like us as the economy has changed and got impact on labor market. I heard a lot bad news frequently these days that some of my friends need to say goodbye to lion city due to failing to get work pass. Nobody will want to go back home unless they have a specific reason because we all know the situation of our country. It doesn't mean we are not loving our mother land, we just waiting a good time to come from a suitable place. For that, we are giving our best time as well as risking our life due to insecure work condition.

One fine day, one of my friend went to an interview in prospect of changing job. She was satisfied with the way she answer to all incoming question by interviewer. But she realized later she had made a big wrong that claimed her potential job. She was regretful and of course she cannot change the result but she took lesson from that bitter experience. What did she make then? Lets take a lesson from her error. The interviewer asked her final question which is quite common to all interviewer.

Why do you want to change your job?
"Because there is no more project in future", my friend replied.
The interviewer come out with another question with curiously.
"How many QS are employed in your current company?"
she said " 3 altogether".
Where are they coming from?
Myanmar, she quickly answered.
The interviewer remarked that "no wonder, your company doesn't make new job in future"
My friend silent and just listen what he said.
Your boss has been wrong technique by employing all Myanmar QS.
She has no idea to counter and the interview section end at that point.

What can we gain from this?
We should prepare answers for all possible difficult questions before we go to interview.
There might have been so many answers for the above mentioned question.
But the way my friend answer didn't make her impressive and even disgrace her current position. I believe it's the major fault she has made during the interview. I hope we will not allow such situation once it come to us in life.

May all my fellow citizen pass all interview questions with the impressive answers in mind.

WikiLeaks disclose Burmese News

I JUST SHARING THE UPDATED NEWS related to my native country
to those who missed the chance due to hectic life style of
oversea.Nothing else. Just copy as it is shown in WikiLeaks
Website. Lets see original and don't pretend our eyes and
ears. Thanks for visiting.

Burma's Generals: "Dense" and "Stupid"
--------------------------------------

4. (C) Turning to Burma, MM Lee expressed his scorn for the
regime's leadership. He said he had given up on them a
decade ago, called them "dense" and "stupid" and said they
had "mismanaged" the country's great natural resources. He
asserted that China had the greatest influence over the
regime and had heavily penetrated the Burmese economy. China
was worried that the country could "blow up" which would
endanger its significant investments, pipelines, and the
approximately two million Chinese estimated to be working in
the country. India was worried about China's influence in
Burma and was engaged with the regime in an attempt to
minimize China's influence. India lacked China's finer grasp
of how Burma worked, however.

Resolving the Crisis in Burma
-----------------------------

5. (C) MM Lee thought one possible solution to the crisis in
Burma would be for a group of younger military officers who
were less "obtuse" to step forward and recognize that the
current situation was untenable. They could share power with
the democracy activists, although probably not with Aung San
Suu Kyi, who was anathema to the military. It would be a
long process. He said that Burma's ambassador in Singapore
had told MFA that Burma could "survive any sanctions" due to
its natural resources. Lee said dealing with the regime was
like "talking to dead people."

SBY as Envoy?
-------------

6. (C) Asked about the possibility of ASEAN naming a Burma
envoy, MM Lee said an envoy could not be from Singapore,
because Singapore is seen as too close to the United States.
He suggested that Indonesian President Yudhoyono could
potentially be an interlocutor. As a former general, SBY

SINGAPORE 00001932 002 OF 003

might be able to meet with Senior General Than Shwe and get
him to listen. Furthermore, SBY is "keen to play the role of
peacemaker," but the challenge would be getting someone who
is not too close to the United States to ask him to do it.
MM Lee said that Vietnam was a possibility.

A day to proud

IT WAS LAST SUNDAY, 12/12/2010, I attended a civil seminar 2010 organized by civil engineers who are working in Singapore for the first time such kind. I am needed to register couple months in advance to get my seat. I registered this event because I wanted to see our country's famous engineer, U Nyi Hla Nge who initiated the idea of this event. He made open and close ceremony speech wisely. He explained how does this event come and credited to his pupils Justify Fullwho are super-active in organizing this event with the prospect of wide knowledge sharing among fellow Myanmar engineer society especially to younger generation who just come and struggle to settle here.

Coincidentally this year, paying tribute to old teachers of RIT would be held in Singapore and the organizer arrange this event in the present of their respective teachers. So Prof U Nyi Hla Nge repeatedly stressed to carry this kind of seminar forward regardless of there is paying tribute to teachers. I really impressed the way he speak to audience and respect him on the first sight. No wonder he has been famous engineer in Myanmar and once gained deputy minister of technology. What a sham to sack him from this post due to political reason? I am sure he doesn't interest in politic and solely focus on his own career. When we neglect his ability, only our country will suffer from that. He can go any country with his recognized education background, but he stays in Myanmar. It say a lot how much he loves country and wants to contribute his mother land.

There are 10 speakers altogether in this year event. They come out with different interesting project from general practices of construction to airport design. It's great to learn how to make underground tunnel boring in Singapore's MRT construction. Some speakers explained by English and some of course by mother tongues. But I prefer by mother tongues if it is up to me because it can reach target of explanation easily. I don't down grade the quality of attendance. I just thinking of fast communication. They are much look like reading English section rather than explanation. Anyway we should give credit to their effort. It won't be easy to prepare a project for presentation to well educated audience.

I found some donation box as well as engineering book selling counters. The organizer are distributing feed back form to incoming attendances. The event is held at the auditorium of Singapore polytechnic and the event is attached one lunch buffet break and one refreshment beverage break. The event started on 8:30am and end at 5:30pm. I was happy to see the auditorium is full of Myanmar engineers and sad to see them gradually disappeared to half empty. At lunch break, there are quarter of attendances disappeared and at refreshment break another quarter walked away. At afternoon section, some of attendance are sleepy as the speakers are not attractive and topic are deemed boring.

I put my tail inside my legs when the speakers explain about design process like plastic & elastic, etc. It is embarrassing not to understand/ interest design topic despite I am graduated as a civil engineer. I think some considerable part of audience are the like of me. I expected less from this event and looking for more practical way of seminar. I agree as there are some engineer who can work as engineer. But on the other hand, we have to accept that it's only handful amount of those who come and work in Singapore. I might be pessimist but it's realistic I believe. We have to be realistic if we are looking for long term successful event. We shouldn't make our engineers find disappointing to attend such kind of seminar and stay away in next.

Anyway, we should welcome this kind of quality seminar among our society as this is the manner of educated society. We at least send some signal to locals how and what the quality people Burmese are. I filled up feed back form and gave some suggestion to make this event more attractive in next edition. The thing I achieve from this event is understanding my current position in term of civil engineering career. I had no technically related question to ask speakers during Q&A section. It made me ashamed to do so. I initially made some draft questions to ask if nobody ask. But when the time come, Prof U Nyi Hla Nge urged audience not to shame and angry on asking questions frankly. As a result there were some good respond from audience and I understood I shouldn't ask my question as they are out of technical area. My wife and I went back silently after the event is totally finished.

We were exhausted after sitting the whole day and listening to speakers under the roof. I realized how much they (organizer) will take effort to become this event successful if we are such tired. We all should salute to them for their contribution to our society without any profit. In fact they even might spend their own money in making this event happen in this lion city. Thanks for all concerned parties. I hope this is the very first of so many to come annually and we have finally created the milestone of Myanmar Engineers Society in Singapore.

Happy 150th day Birthday

DEAR MY DAUGHTER

Time goes day after day and you have been in this planet for five month today. Good thing is you are healthy and bad thing is you are missing parental love. Your mum and I always felt we are to blame for this situation. Your mum keep telling me how she is missing you especially at night time and it really make me alert. No parent would love to be staying away from their infant, my dear and so does infant. We tried to keep in touch with you through babysitters and are happy to know you are clever and never given them any troubles. We relief when we know everybody loves you by the time they see you. You gradually become the heart-beat of surrounding people and we are really concern on that.

Regardless of deep or shallow love you have been received by relatives and neighbours, we understand that it won't be perfect as you expect from your parent. It really doesn't mean we don't love you, baby by leaving you with others. We fight our willingness to search a better world for you. We swallow our pains in favour of your smooth life. We tried to convert our remembrance to strength. We console each other when we are sadden due to remembrance. We keep looking at other baby of your age when we see on public transportation. We dream how we'll raise your life when we see smart students on road. No matter how expensive it is, we'll never stingy in buying baby-wares. We have spent a lot in our phone bills because we want to keep in touch with your latest news.

Every morning, your mum wakes up by telling me how she dreamt of you. If the dream goes wrong, she'll start worrying about your health. She always seek the way she can return home to see you. She'll be silent after she talked to your Aunty about you. That time, I'll have to try to comfort her by telling something else to ease her mind. Oh my baby, it's never easy to work in oversea and we have been some new light of future since you come our world. We never feel tired because of you. We look at your photo when we feel exhausted. We tried to save money to shine your life. Whatever different between your mum and me, things go smooth when it is concern with you. We all will have common platform when we discuss your life. We are already busy with the brainstorming of ur raise.

Oh my baby, we wanted nothing but your good health. All we wanted at the moment is able to give you pleasure life. We are rated by some friends as cruel parent because we left you after 3 months old. We know our situation than anybody else. We have to brave if we want something special. In life, no pain no gain, my dear. Now your mum is trying to get some leaves on coming CNY days and hopefully you both able to meet one month from now. We are thanking you for calm and untroubled baby.

We wish you possess a good, happy, healthy and successful life together with your parent. I'll try to fulfill my part in making this dream come true. See you sooner or later, my princess.

The art of football

THIS YEAR SUZUKI CUP has been surprised for football lovers and its authority. This year edition is joint held on Indonesia and Vietnam at the same time. 3 Times Champion Thailand and Singapore have been dumped out of this year competition from group stage. Nobody would have been predicted so. The biggest shock come by long time regional minnows Philippine as they advanced through to semi-final. The Asean football's history will have to rewrite as a new football power had arisen such as Vietnam & Indonesia. How about Myanmar? We always estimate our national team over and it's not a strange to us to end with a pain.

However we are disappointing on our national team's result, our people can't stay away from TV to support our team by the time football come back. No wonder my country's team crashed out earlier stage since regional big powers like Thailand and Singapore packed their things at the same stage. Myanmar got 1 point from 3 group games and it was also our team's last game with Philippine. We knew previously that Philippine & Lao are always stand at the bottom of the table whenever football competition finished. Now they have improved their level and even threaten to regional powers. Who will even think of Philippine is going to beat host Vietnam with 2:0? Who will dare to bet Lao will draw with Thailand at 2:2? This is football and anything can happen in this sport. This competition highlighted the art of football.

At the same time, how much we have improved on our national team? Our team is coached by Myanmar national. If I am not wrong, only Myanmar and Malaysia are using their own coach. What does it mean? How speak is it? It's likely that our football authority don't want to invest in improving our football. They would point out at MNL that is considered the turn of our hope to restore our golden football days long time ago. Thailand and Vietnam prepared well but failed to impress. They have a dream of reaching final but they return from group stage.

Singapore's coach earn S$25,000 a month but can't save his team to alive as long as possible. Thailand hired ex-England captain to steer their national team with the great ambition. But these famous coach failed to return what they are suppose to give. I don't know what's happening in Thailand in the wake of this failure. But I am able to read the angry voice of Singaporeans. They can't simply accept the failure this way. They know how to complain and highlight authority to amend. They are expert in finger pointing.

"Sack urgly coach" one commented.
"Give local a chance to roar lion as there is no difference with FTs" one wrote.
"Lack of energy and pride for country" one highlighted.
"Waste of public money over and over" one stress.
"Go there for holiday only" joke at weakpoint.
"Get prepare your excuses to face media's question in return home", one voice.
"Thanks for giving your best, team Singapore" one sympathized.
"Take big money and failed to beat a team that has no professional league"
"Full time professional players unable to beat part-time footballers"

So many comments I enjoyed to read and took lesson from it. I gained something from their writing and take this opportunity to thanks all participants. I was watching Vietnam vs Singapore match last night despite my country's match is playing at the same time. I thought Vietnam-Singapore match is much more exciting game and I love to see them as a neutral fan. Nevertheless we all fans had a good game to enjoy. Singapore players tried their best but missing some luck. To be honest, Vietnam deserve winner as they are reduced to 10 players for a quarter of game and Singapore failed to take this advantage to advance through.

Finally this, too, shall pass away.

Are we aware of risking FIRE ?

YESTERDAY I was needed to attend in-house fire safety training for office workers by fire consultant at the expense of company. Despite it is meant for office fire, the trainer also tried to address the residential fire risk that is very much concern to our daily lives. We will never know how bad it is until it happened to us. And people are used to think there is nothing to kill fire with them but it's for fire fighter's responsibility. In reality, we can't consider like that if we really value our life and safety. We can minimize the risk by taking our own defense preparation for unseen enemy like fire. We never know when it will come to us but it can be happened at any time. So regardless of where we are, we are under the danger of fire if we don't care about it.

What am I shameful person not to know how to use fire extinguisher? Also I can't answer trainer's several questions in fire related activities. I realised that I am not a well-prepared man even for my own safety as well as my loved ones around me. I have no idea in what to do by the time fire come alive. Also don't know how to rescue my colleagues or flatmate if they are being burned by fire infront of me. Running is not answer for all circumstances. We generally understand and likely to use water to kill fire. In fact, such misunderstanding might cause fire bigger and even explosive and claim our lives.

Being an immigrant worker myself, we are likely to work and stay in tall buildings. What should we do if the building we are working or staying is under fire before civil defense force arrived? We can't afford to wait they come as fire is spreading so fast and we would have been dead when they (fire fighters) arrived. So we should know basic knowledge in killing fire before it become big. Also we should know where is potential area that fire can start. We mostly agree it'ld be kitchen area to be starting point of fire. It's not a right answer at all time as per result. The living room and bed rooms are another potential area to start fire.

What to do and what to aware? When we are trapped under fire, we should close the door and seal the edge of door frame with masking tape so that the smoke cannot enter our room. We are surprised to learn that smoke kills people than fire according to research. Because fire make smoke and smoke spread faster than fire. Once people are getting smoke, they start to suffer and feel heat and if it is severe, can claim to death. We noted that smoke is going 1 foot above the floor and so it is called floating smoke. So when you are in fire building, do not run here and there. Just roll and avoid smoke hitting you. If water is available, wet your body and take wet towel and close to your mouth and noise. After tapping your room, open the windows and shout "FIRE". At this point, remember do not shout "HELP". If you shout help in the middle of night, nobody will entertain you. But everybody take instant action once they hear FIRE as they are in the same trouble.

Usually we would answer to go down through emergency exit when fire. What will you do if the fire is burning down-stair? You have no choice to go down and again you might want to go up. Unfortunately, most of roof access in Singapore are locked. Meaning you are not allowed to run up to roof slab. Let say your building's roof access is unlocked, there would be much people gathering there and remember there is no heliport in any residential building of the Singapore. So what can we do? Nothing to do but die? That's why trainer stressed us to take extra care in small thing that can ignite fire.

We are advised not to charge our hand phone overnight. We should switch off our TV and other electronic appliance rather than just pressing power button from our remote control. Try to know where is emergency exit in the building you stay or work. If the emergency exit has doors, check if the door are locked or not. If locked inform to management or check other doors if they are the same or not. Trainer suggested not to lock our main door and window iron grilles at night time so that we can't trap in fire once the fire come. Most of the fire used to come mid night and dawn when we are deep in sleep. So we can't have time to find key to open these fixed grilles. Make sure fire extinguisher is placed at least in the living room and bed room unless you can put at all rooms.Do not use water to kill kitchen fire and remember to use wet tower to kill this. Killing fire with oil fire will make you fallen in the bigger trouble. Electrical fire can only be killed by foam or chemical that is inside the fire extinguisher. The fire safety department of Singapore recognize to install both fire extinguisher and smoke detector at home. In the developed countries, it's a must to install at every home by law. The trainer joked us he don't understand why Singapore follow this good practice at their HDB home and he'll probably tell PM Lee in the upcoming election. The fire department is selling the package in which fire extinguisher and smoke detector for S$150. It seems expensive for some people and trainer offered his students option to buy only fire extinguisher only for S$80. These preventative equipments come with 5 years warranty and customers can happily change without warranty without paying a cent more. I thought it's a wise-investment for our irreplaceable live and ordered one fire extinguisher. The selling price S$80 include door to door delivery service as well as GST.

I feel more safety about fire risk by purchasing this fire extinguisher and putting in my bed room. If it's not happening to us, I can help my neighbours and flatmate if they are exposed to fire. I was shocked to watch some videos shown by trainer and aware of fire threat to us. I understand what to do next to prevent my life and my loved ones by attending this an hour class. If anybody want to buy fire extinguisher with the same rate I bought, I make myself available to help you get contact person being volunteer. It's my pure attitude to make my friend's life well prevented and safety to enjoy their life to its fullest. I believe in some quote saying that "It's better prevention than say sorry". Being QS myself, I calculate how much it cost me for every day. Since fire extinguisher come with 5 year warranty, I get daily cost at (S$80/5x365=0.043835616 $ = 4.38 cents). What a value investment is it? I have made it, then why wait for you?

May everybody free from suffering due to FIRE regardless of his own fault or others.

WHEN

TODAY IT'S not really a strange news that our planet is chaos by different kinds of natural disasters such as floods, equate, volcano eruption, heat wave, tsunami, cyclone, land slide, etc. Anyway it is undeniable that our earth become unhealthy due to people's problematic acts from different parts of world. They keep holding meetings that end up without results. The NGOs are shouting around noisier than ever before but nobody seems bother their protests. Finally we have to handle the natural disasters ourselves and it is a good meter to measure our governments whether they are good or not to its people. Let me tour you around some countries.

When severe drought and heat wave fallen on Russia, its PM announced they'll reduce their wheat export to other country in favour of their people's relief on foods supply.

When global warming effect food's production of world, Indonesia president promised his people that they'll plan to increase farm land and said "Feed Indonesia first then World".

When people in Singapore complaint of foreign workers influx in island state, PM Lee frequently address in his occasional speeches that "Singaporean come first".

When Sichun Equate hit to China, their PM asked rescue team to rush in evacuation effort by telling " Every second is equal to a live of a child".

When flood hit India and spoilt of paddy farm, its state minister offered compensation money to its suffering farmer.

When the mine was collapsed and trapped 36 minners in Chilli, the government tried to rescue them after 2 months time by getting international aids especially from NASA for inventing a capsule called HOPE.

When the mine was explored in Newzeland and claimed 11 people's lives, the government declare state's sadden day and held a party to memorize the effort of workers.

When the party goes wrong and claim over 300 lives in Cambodia during annual water festival, its PM announced their deepest sympathies to its people and close office in the wake.

Finally it come to my mother land, Myanmar.......
When Cyclone Nagis hit to Burma and claimed hundreds of thousand lives, our PM visited to affected areas and told victims that "Now I know what you all need, I noted you don't have cup to drink, dish to eat, food to eat, let me report this and later come back...."

I don't want to comment on it. I set you think only. Thanks for visiting.

No Excuses

YESTERDAY EVENING, AFF Suzuki Cup Football Competition's 2nd day Group B match was held at Hanoi, Vietnam. Myanmar meets Singapore in this crucial match since we lost to the host at 7:1 in the opening match and we badly needed to win this match. On the other hand, Singapore drew with Philippine at the opening day at 1:1 and come out with the same ambition. So I knew this match is going to be a good match for supporters unless it's failed it's quality. I waited for this match to support our national team despite it was thumped by Vietnam in the opening match. I made sure everything is done before the match time so that I can support fullest.

Of course I wanted our team to win and hope for their best action. One of my flat-mates who is my fellow citizen told me not to watch because Myanmar is going to be a lose side and I'ld be end up as a disappointing person. Nevertheless I can't stop my eagerness to watch this match because I have been waited for as long as 3 days. Since I am working in Singapore, I read newspaper everyday and I notice that Singapore's media are supporting their team all the ways and their players and coach are boasting by telling they're regional football powerhouse together with Thailand and going to beat all the competent. They even dare to say that less than a final is failure to them. What a daring dream? Probably this drive my eagerness to watch this match.

As soon as the match begins, Myanmar continuously pressed Singapore's side and dominate the match effectively. Singapore was losing their format and just running around to get back the ball from Myanmar players. Our players seems confident at start and I am really glad to see them play like that. I thought MNL has been contributed to our national team and at 16min Myanmar found a net and shocked to announcer of Singapore's TV channel 5. Myanmar continue to attack and few minute later, we were so close to get another goal. It's very much fortunate for Singapore team and announcer even told this is a great escape for Singapore. The match goes 1:0 after half time.

Singapore changed 2 players who are seemingly foreign country origin after half time and fought back to us aggressively. Our players are trying to defend their lead and especially our goal keeper was so busy with protecting goal mouth. I think he is the busiest player in this match and deserve the best player of the match award if given. He defied Singapore's quality attacking ball by saving magnificently. We knew by sense that we are going to concede a goal if we can't change a format or substitute a good and stronger play to resist. Under the Singapore's strong attack, our players become weaker by times and they always collapse when they fight for ball together with other players. We are of course not happy to see them not fit enough to counter. At 65 min, Singapore found a net and they even raise their attacking football.

We are shouting at our players to go ahead despite they can't hear us. Our coach made some changes and tried to attack. Few min later, our lone striker No.9, Yan Paing, got a chance and kick the ball infront of goal and the ball hit the bar and bounce back. What a great chance to miss and lucky for Singapore side? We are so upsetting to learn that and continue to watch with full of nervous. We just expect to make this match draw and we can still dream to reach semi-final by beating Philippine in the last group match. At 80 min around, our players are visibly weak and unable to play their full. Then Singapore took this opportunity and keep attacking. The match reached 90 min and added 4 minutes for injury time. Deep in the extra time, exactly 3min and 1 min remain to finish the game, they scored the winner and left Myanmar team hopeless. And effectively broke our team's dream to reach at least semi-final match.

As we took zero point from 2 match, the last group game would be meaningless for our team. It's sure for Myanmar team to return home after last match game. We are very much disappointed to watch them lose. It's very hard to swallow and I am sure it'll take much time for our players to heal well. But losing a game like this has dignity and our players can stand their heads height especially when the opponents are taking advantages to adapt foreign players. We fairly compete the game with our very own people with the least budget. I think we are the one of few team whose coach is local. We should take all the responsibilities together rather than blaming at each other. No fingers point please. Just try to take a lesson from this game and lets move forward and improve our weaken.

Hope our authority can take the lesson from the game and make this failure as a stepping stone in improving our national team. May our national team able to bring success in near future with their best endeavors. What I can tell you now is I'll always support my national team regardless of win or lose. You can make us proud one day, we sincerely believe in Myanmar players. Lets support together, my fellow citizen.

Make the right impression

TODAY I read an article under executive appointments at ST newspaper and felt this is useful to my fellow citizens who are preparing for interview with a job at stake. So I decided to share this article for my visitors who has missed this page. Hopefully I may also need it in future by the time I try to switch my job.

Employers are always keen to hire good people, so why is it that some job-seekers project themselves especially if they are not very experienced in the job hunt process. Here are some common mistakes that job seekers make when applying for a job and how prospective employers view such errors.

1. You don't know much about the company
The only excuse a job seker has for not knowing about the company is if the company has chosen to remain enonymous, for example, by placing a blind advertisement. If you know the name of the company, make it a point to find out as much as you can about the organisation. Check out its website. Find out what its core products or services are, who their competitors are, what the company philosophy is, the locations they operate in, an so on.
Showing the interviewer that you have done your research on the company demonstrates that you have initiative and that you take pride in how you present yourself.

Employer's perspective: Someone who does not fulfil this basic expectation comes across as "sloppy" and uninterestd. The interviewer will think: "If applicants can't even be bothered to find out about the company they are applying for a job with, how can I expect them to do their job well or go the extra mile?"

2. You are unprepared for the interview
Never attend an interview without preparing for it. Know enough about the role you are applying for and be prepared to answer tough questions. Sometimes simple questions like "How would you describe yourself?" or "What are your aspirations?" tend to throw people off.
There are many sites on the internet that offer interview support, so check them out. Remember that when an interviewer is asking questions, he is also interested in how you carry yourself, whether you comfortable with yourself and how interested you are in the job. Preparing well for an interview does not simply involve memorising "text book" answers to tough questions either. Being well-rehearsed is one thing, but it is also important to project some of your personity. Role-play with a friend and ask for feedback on areas that need improvement.

Employer's perspective: Unprepared means uninterested. It is not just the job fit that employers are interested in - they also want to know if you are the right for the company culture.

3. You don't manage your online presence
Employers are known to check on their candidate's online profile through social networking sites like Facebook. Make sure that you untag yourself from photos that reflect badly on you - your friends might think that a picture of you acting strangely after one drink too many is funny, but a prospective employer certainly will not!

Employer's perspective: Someone who always appears to be partying on a social networking site is probably not focused on work. If the comments he posts on social networking sites are complaints about work or colleagues, he may be a difficult employee.

4. You don't think about what you can do for the employer
Ask yourself these questions before you send off your job application: "What contribution can I make? Why should they hire me versus someone else? What's so good about me?" Some people only see the job search from their perspective they need a job. They forget that they are competing with others for the same position. Thinking about how you can contribute to the organisation will help you differentiate youself from other job seekers.

Employer's perspective : A candidate who tries to show how he can add value tells the employer that he is serious about the role and that he is ready to take on responsibilities.

5. You "bad mouth" your previous employer
Injustice does exist in the work-place, but what a prospective employer looks for is your ability to transcend a bad experience and move on. The hiring manager also looks for maturity in how you handle comflicts and how you solve problems. When someone holds on to past hurts, he does not have the energy to deal with current opportunities.

Employer's perspective : What will this person do when he leaves us? Is he going to "bad mouth" us in the same way?

6. You are careless about confidentiality
I have seen resumes posted online where candidates list names of clivents serviced, targets achieved and other sensitive information. This demonstrates a disregard for confidentiality and a lack of discretion.

Employer's perspective: When a candidate divulges too much information about their personal or work lives, the prospective employer may question his judgement as well as his trustworthiness. Job applications and interviews, in particular, are about human interaction and are similar to meeting people at a party or social event.
Common courtesies still apply - we never tell too much at the first meeting or get too comfortable. The trick is to make a good enough impression to get invited back - or in the case of an interview, to land the job.
