No Excuses

YESTERDAY EVENING, AFF Suzuki Cup Football Competition's 2nd day Group B match was held at Hanoi, Vietnam. Myanmar meets Singapore in this crucial match since we lost to the host at 7:1 in the opening match and we badly needed to win this match. On the other hand, Singapore drew with Philippine at the opening day at 1:1 and come out with the same ambition. So I knew this match is going to be a good match for supporters unless it's failed it's quality. I waited for this match to support our national team despite it was thumped by Vietnam in the opening match. I made sure everything is done before the match time so that I can support fullest.

Of course I wanted our team to win and hope for their best action. One of my flat-mates who is my fellow citizen told me not to watch because Myanmar is going to be a lose side and I'ld be end up as a disappointing person. Nevertheless I can't stop my eagerness to watch this match because I have been waited for as long as 3 days. Since I am working in Singapore, I read newspaper everyday and I notice that Singapore's media are supporting their team all the ways and their players and coach are boasting by telling they're regional football powerhouse together with Thailand and going to beat all the competent. They even dare to say that less than a final is failure to them. What a daring dream? Probably this drive my eagerness to watch this match.

As soon as the match begins, Myanmar continuously pressed Singapore's side and dominate the match effectively. Singapore was losing their format and just running around to get back the ball from Myanmar players. Our players seems confident at start and I am really glad to see them play like that. I thought MNL has been contributed to our national team and at 16min Myanmar found a net and shocked to announcer of Singapore's TV channel 5. Myanmar continue to attack and few minute later, we were so close to get another goal. It's very much fortunate for Singapore team and announcer even told this is a great escape for Singapore. The match goes 1:0 after half time.

Singapore changed 2 players who are seemingly foreign country origin after half time and fought back to us aggressively. Our players are trying to defend their lead and especially our goal keeper was so busy with protecting goal mouth. I think he is the busiest player in this match and deserve the best player of the match award if given. He defied Singapore's quality attacking ball by saving magnificently. We knew by sense that we are going to concede a goal if we can't change a format or substitute a good and stronger play to resist. Under the Singapore's strong attack, our players become weaker by times and they always collapse when they fight for ball together with other players. We are of course not happy to see them not fit enough to counter. At 65 min, Singapore found a net and they even raise their attacking football.

We are shouting at our players to go ahead despite they can't hear us. Our coach made some changes and tried to attack. Few min later, our lone striker No.9, Yan Paing, got a chance and kick the ball infront of goal and the ball hit the bar and bounce back. What a great chance to miss and lucky for Singapore side? We are so upsetting to learn that and continue to watch with full of nervous. We just expect to make this match draw and we can still dream to reach semi-final by beating Philippine in the last group match. At 80 min around, our players are visibly weak and unable to play their full. Then Singapore took this opportunity and keep attacking. The match reached 90 min and added 4 minutes for injury time. Deep in the extra time, exactly 3min and 1 min remain to finish the game, they scored the winner and left Myanmar team hopeless. And effectively broke our team's dream to reach at least semi-final match.

As we took zero point from 2 match, the last group game would be meaningless for our team. It's sure for Myanmar team to return home after last match game. We are very much disappointed to watch them lose. It's very hard to swallow and I am sure it'll take much time for our players to heal well. But losing a game like this has dignity and our players can stand their heads height especially when the opponents are taking advantages to adapt foreign players. We fairly compete the game with our very own people with the least budget. I think we are the one of few team whose coach is local. We should take all the responsibilities together rather than blaming at each other. No fingers point please. Just try to take a lesson from this game and lets move forward and improve our weaken.

Hope our authority can take the lesson from the game and make this failure as a stepping stone in improving our national team. May our national team able to bring success in near future with their best endeavors. What I can tell you now is I'll always support my national team regardless of win or lose. You can make us proud one day, we sincerely believe in Myanmar players. Lets support together, my fellow citizen.
