Just Do It

RECENTLY one domestic local media boasted that our ex-capital, Yangon, is the city of most heritage / historical building within the region. I raised my eye bows for a while if it is not for a long. I see this article as a welcoming news but a doubt in mind. If this is a truth story, then we should take some advantage from this especially in making tourism sector improvement. Since we are one of few countries colonized by British within ASEAN region and it's doubtless we have some British tame colonial buildings. Moreover we have ancient cities like Bagan, Myauk U, etc. The vulnerable part of our country is lacking intention to improve and failing to collaborate with those who has been success in the tourism sector. There would be some if not all to help us boosting our tourism sector. But the system/policy of ruling government effectively protect them coming in.

We have to be realistic if we are desperate to develop our country. We must get ourselves ready to accept/adopt anything that can improve our system. Without this kind of cooperation, we'll be going like a blind. We should attempt to let the world know we have this kind of attractive and irreplaceable structure which cannot be found everywhere in this planet. At the same time, we should adjust our immigration policies such as visa application in favour of smooth processing for those who want to visit our land. I think our country is one of the most difficult difficult countries to get visa in the world. Without having a proper system, we can't make a significant step forward. We may afford to pretend locals that we are on the right path going to the developing nation by citing small scale and less quality projects which are managed by local business men. As long as we can't assess our rank properly, we will never penetrate outside world.

Recently I visited to Malacca City, Malaysia during CNY holiday. I noticed that they boasted their city as a world heritage city in the tourism signboard by the road. I don't know it is real or virtual or just boasting to attract tourists. But they are success in tourism and making dollars from this advantage. I believe our Yangon has more attractive and famous heritage buildings than Malacca does. Then what made this two cities different? It's easy to answer that is system of governing. They, Malaysian, are proud of their country for calling themselves as a "truly asia". Probably they are right. But I tell you we have more reasons to tell "truly asia". Myanmar is 3 times bigger size than Malaysia. Plus we can compete them with the rich of natural resources. Nobody will doubt that. For instance, Malaysia's state own Petronas company is coming to our country and invest in oil and gas off-shore fields.

May be it's not enough for you to agree with me. Let me draw some more examples. Cambodia has Anchor Watt and it's making benefit from it. Indonesia has Boro Buru Temple and they are making the same benefit. Thailand has only Emerald Buddha and can become the most world's successful tourism country. We have ancient city like Bagan which is not getting enough attention by both governments and outside world. We have thousand miles long coastal line which can be transformed world-class tourist spots if we are smart enough. We have unlisted wonder pogada at Shwe Dagon Pagoda which is most famous among tourists. What else? We have rain forest which is under dangerous of deforestation. We have hundreds of races to be exposed some of which are taken by neighbour country Thailand as their race unfairly.

I just want to ask reliable authority and new government cabinet to make a right step to drive our country back in the society of world. It won't be too tough for you if you are strongly believe with what we have owned. We are fortunate to be given the land with almost everything has. But we are still one of the poorest countries in the world. It highlight our quality to the world. If some countries without natural resources like Singapore can make themselves a successful nation, then why not ours? It is never late as long as we understand the situation and begins from the point we are. Above all, please do not selfish at the expense of people and try to be honest and think of better tomorrow. This is only way you can take the hearts of people. You don't need to do everything they need. Just do it what you think is the most necessary. The good karma will follow your footstep. Believe me.
